P&G Patents Cleaning, Disinfecting Liquid Handwash

US Patent No. 8,846,591 B2; Procter & Gamble has patented a liquid cleaning and disinfecting hand dishwashing detergent. It is comprised of at least one surfactant selected from the group consisting of anionic, nonionic, cationic, zwitterionic, amphoteric surfactants, and mixtures thereof; benzyl alcohol; ethanol; at least one hydrotrope; a single antibacterial active selected from the group consisting of halogenated benzyl alcohol derivatives, halogenated hydroxydiphenylethers, quaternary ammonium salts, a peroxide bleach system; and at least one sequestering agent.

According to the patent, the cleaning and disinfecting hand dishwashing detergent composition eliminates 99.999% of Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus and Enterococcus hirae in no more than five minutes at an 80% product concentration and 20°C, according to the EN1276 suspension test.
