Luster Distributes 900 Food Baskets to the Needy

Luster Products Black Heritage Foundation, a non-profit charitable foundation founded by company founder, the late Fed Luster Sr., held its 4th annual Thanksgiving Food Basket Giveaway on Nov. 25.  This year, the company distributed more than 900 baskets from Luster Products’ headquarters in Chicago.

(l-r): Freddie Luster II, executive vice president and director of R&D; Jory Luster, president and chief executive officer, Sonja Luster-Munis, vice president, systems administration, and Precious Luster, director of logistics.
“Every year, we look forward to giving hundreds of food baskets to people who don’t have the means to enjoy the same kind of meal that those who are more fortunate can enjoy during this special time of year,” said Jory Luster, president of Luster Products, Inc. “But I’m heartened by the fact that this has been our most successful year in terms of our employees contributing to this. To sacrifice some of your comfort to help someone who is in discomfort, you have truly defined giving.” Since 2005, Luster has assembled and distributed food baskets to local shelters, churches and families in need, identified by Luster Products employees. Employees also raise money to help defray the cost of the baskets.

Mary Kay Works To End Teen Dating Violence

Mary Kay Inc. has joined with actress Amanda Bynes and non-profit partner Break the Cycle to launch a national online campaign petitioning lawmakers to make domestic violence prevention awareness mandatory in schools. In early December, Ms. Bynes and Rhonda Shasteen, Mary Kay’s chief
Rhonda Shasteen and Amanda Bynes.
marketing officer, visited Oscar De La Hoya Animo Charter High School in Dallas, TX to talk to students about ways to create healthy relationships and prevent and end teen dating violence.

In a recent report by the Family Violence Prevention Fund, one in four eighth and ninth grade students reported being victims of dating violence, and the Department of Justice consistently finds that girls between the ages of 16 and 24 experience the highest rate of intimate partner violence.

The online campaign includes a petition, www.enddatingviolence.com, which encourages states to require teen dating violence prevention programs in schools across the country. Currently, only Texas and Rhode Island require domestic violence prevention to be a part of the public school curriculum. Ms. Bynes was the first person to sign the petition.
