PolyOne Corporation offers a wide range of OnCap Thermoplastic additives for the health and beauty packaging industry including nucleating agents, PlastOne concentrates, slip agents, UV absorbers and inhibitor concentrates. These concentrates enhance the performance of thermoplastic parts, improve manufacturing efficiency, reduce manufacturing downtime and enable smooth product transitions.
UV absorber and inhibitor concentrates protect packaging and its contents from damaging ultraviolet light in the 280-390 nanometer range and help extend shelf life. UV concentrates are available for both FDA-regulated and non-FDA applications.
PlastOne concentrates are a line of customizable products that can help packaging customers reduce manufacturing cost and improve aesthetics. These concentrates can help achieve full design dimension, control warping or shrinkage, brighten appearance, eliminate flow or fill lines, and reduce cycle time. PlastOne concentrates can be used for applications such as thin wall covers and lids.
Slip agents reduce friction between parts and increase manufacturing speed, especially in flexible packaging applications. Nucleating agents help increase the crystallization rate in polypropylene applications, which leads to increased stiffness, dimensional stability, hardness and heat distortion temperature. They enable down gauging, thin walling and weight reduction of finished parts as well as improve upon the transparency of polypropylene applications.
All OnCap additive concentrates are available in single-component and multi-component formulas that combine two or more performance and process additives in one masterbatch. In addition, OnCap additives can be combined with a color concentrate as an OnColor SmartBatch concentrate. OnCap additives can be used in injection molding and extrusion processes and, depending on manufacturing process, can be purchased in a variety of physical forms including pellets, compressed pellets, beads, flakes, powders and liquids.
In addition, PolyOne’s Polymer Diagnostics Inc. (PDI), an analytical and testing subsidiary, helps customers understand and define issues, isolate material and process problems, diagnose failure mechanisms, qualify materials and analyze performance criteria.
“Our technology and support services enhance our broad thermoplastic colorant and additive product lines for packaging in the health and beauty markets,” said Pete Prusak, director of technology and business development for PolyOne’s Color and Additives Masterbatches Group. “By working closely with designers and manufacturers, we can increase speed to market while at the same time keeping costs to a minimum.”
