Polyurethane Dispersions from Bayer

Bayer (Booth No. B400) is introducing Baycusan C 1000 and Baycusan C 1004 dispersions for use in decorative cosmetics. According to a study by Bayer, oil-in-water black mascara products formulated with Baycusan C 1004 lost only eight percent of their color intensity after immersion in a water bath for 30 minutes, while the formulas created with Baycusan C 1000 lost only five percent. In contrast, the control group formulated without the polyurethane dispersion lost 22 percent.

The polyurethane dispersions also give mascara and eyeliners good abrasive resistance.

Moreover, in sun care formulas, Baycusan C 1000 not only offers excellent water resistance, but also a pleasant skin feel even at a high sun protection factor (>SPF 25).

To keep up with the growing demand for the Baycusan range of waterborne polyurethane dispersions, Bayer MaterialScence has invested E2.3 million in a new production line at the Dormagen Chempark.

“For us, innovation and investment are key to sustainable growth,” said Joachim Wolff, head of coatings, adhesives, specialties, Bayer MaterialScience. “This project, which we completed in less than two years, is a wonderful example of our innovation strategy. To enable us to deliver more success stories, we will invest around 30 percent more in research projects and customer-related developments this year than we did in 2007.”
