Procter chairwoman advances in Fortune list

Fortune magazine’s annual list of the 50 most powerful women in business ranked Susan Arnold, the vice chairwoman of Procter & Gamble Co.’s beauty care division, as 17th this year in, up from her ranking of 20 last year. Arnold beat out Martha Stewart (who ranked 20) in the listing. Ms, Arnold, described as the “beauty queen” of the world’s largest consumer products maker, leads one of Procter’s most profitable businesses, which posted earnings of $2.9 billion in fiscal 2005. Sales advanced by 14 percent, to $19.5 billion.
