Care for textured hair could use a boost in investment and innovation, says Ceci Kurzman, board member at Revlon and Lanvin.

So, she is hoping her direct-to-consumer platform she founded with the mission of creating a new standard for tightly textured hair and scalp care will make up for the lack of education and personalized regimens with her own product line she’s calling OurX. The brand will be led by CEO Meghan Maupin. She cofounded Atolla, a custom skin health brand that was acquired by Function of Beauty in 2021.

Through the online platform, users will answer an in-depth assessment inclusive of at-home hair health tests that gather information about products that align with the consumer’s lifestyle. Trained hair experts will then provide consumers with a daily regimen of the right products for them.

The line is launching with seven stock-keeping units. These include a Scalp Serum and Detox Cleanse Complex, which are formulated with hyaluronic acid and squalane, combined with AI-created peptides.

While OurX started out a self-funded venture, Reign Ventures led a recent $2.5 million seed round raised by the platform, with the goal to build a diverse investor base.

Subscriptions, including hair coaching and curated education, are available.
