An independent expert panel of interdisciplinary scientists is calling for information on fragrance ingredient groups: Aromatic Ketones, Alkyl and Cyclic Alkyl Nitriles and Aryl and Akyl Aryl Nitriles that are under study by the Research Institute for Fragrance Materials, Inc. (RIFM).

The Expert Panel will review these groups at the end of January 2012. Materials representative of the groups are:

Aromatic Ketones

•4-(p-hydroxyphenyl)-2-butanone

•Methyl beta-naphthyl ketone

•Benzyl acetone

Alkyl and Cyclic Alkyl Nitriles

•Citronellyl nitrile

•3,7-Dimethyl2,6-nonadienenitrile

Aryl and Alkyl Aryl Nitriles

•Alpha-Cyclohexylidene benzeneacetonitrile

Information regarding these fragrance materials should be submitted by e-mail to Dr. Ladd Smith, [email protected], by Jan. 9, 2012. A request to present information in-person, if desired, should be included in the e-mail to Dr. Smith.

Information received from interested parties, will be included as part of the background assembled for discussion of these items. Interested party submissions will undergo a formal review and presenters should be willing and prepared to answer questions from the Panel.

The global fragrance industry collectively carries out research on fragrance ingredients through RIFM. An independent, third-party Expert Panel regularly reviews RIFM’s research and publishes their evaluations in the peer-reviewed scientific literature available publicly. The Expert Panel opened its process to the public to increase awareness of its activities and enhance dialogue with interested parties.

All members of the Expert Panel are listed on the RIFM web site at www.rifm.org along with information on the Panel’s meetings.
