Ladd Smith, the president of the Research Institute of Fragrance Materials (RIFM), has announced his retirement. Sean G. Traynor, chair of the RIFM Board of Directors, issued the following statement: “You may know that RIFM’s current president, Dr. Ladd W. Smith, has announced his retirement. On behalf of the Board of Directors, I wish to thank Ladd for his 13 years of service to the industry. RIFM has experienced significant evolution during his tenure. The Board will now turn its attention to finding a successor, during which time Ladd will remain in his position and assist in the process. Thank you for your continued support of RIFM.” In other news, Smith will speak on the practical guidelines of fragrance safety as applied to scent marketing at the 2011 Scent World Expo on Dec. 8, 2011, at the Gansevoort Hotel in Miami Beach, FL.
