Tech company has platform for scent messaging, and plans to pre-sale 'oPhone' too.
May 7, 2014

Editor-in-Chief
Tech company Vapor Communications says it has launched onotes.com, a platform for scent messaging aimed to permit consumers to combine aromatic content with text, image, and audio content in mobile messaging, online retail, entertainment, and other electronic communication. Over the next year, this new communication platform will evolve to allow users to send and receive scent-infused messages and ultimately transform the way we communicate. The platform is built for the oPhone, the company's proprietary technology-designed device to generate complex aroma signals in rapid succession without lingering aromatic clouds, similar to the function of a standard telephone in its delivery of audio information. Next month Vapor Communications says it will launch the first scent-based mobile messaging platform for iPhone users worldwide. Starting June 17th, oSnap, the company's iPhone application, will allow users to tag photographs with more than 300,000 unique scents, send and receive these scent-tagged images electronically asoNotes via email, Facebook, Twitter and other. Paired by Bluetooth with the oPhone, iPhone users of oSnap will be able to aromatically experience oNotes. In the first months following launch of oSnap, users will be able to experience the oPhone by visiting oPhone hotspots, initially located in Paris, France and Cambridge, Massachusetts, with more hotspots to come. Eventually users will be able to share and experience oNotes anywhere with the oPhone, the firm contends. Users will obtain the mobile-messaging app oSnap in the Apple Store for free; they will then be able to snap a photograph and tag any object in the photograph with a scent; creation of the scent will be facilitated by a scrolling window that presents up to 32 unique scents of which users can choose from one to eight, resulting in over 300,000 combinations. Users will then be able to name the scent-tagged image and send it electronically to friends. Upon receiving a scent-tagged oNote, users can tap the oNote and be directed to onotes.com, where they will see the image and associated scents. If users possess an iPhone, they will be able to download their aromatic messages via an oPhone and smell the scents. “One day fairly soon, any user of a mobile phone, anywhere, will not only be able to receive a scent message, invoking a memory, a culinary pleasure, or peace of mind, but quickly send another back, similar to how we exchange audio information today with friends around the world. The upcoming summer experience is just the start,” said David Edwards, founder and CEO of Vapor Communications. The company will demonstrate the first commercial oPhone from June 19 to July 31 in the first public hotspot for daily use in David Edwards' cultural creation center, Le Laboratoire, in Paris. From June 17 to July 31, Vapor will pre-sale (on Indiegogo) the first commercial oPhone, which will be produced and delivered in early 2015, for a retail price of $149.
