Nominations are now being accepted for The Soap and Detergent Association (SDA) Glycerine Innovation Award, which includes a $3,000 honorarium. The industrial oil products division of the American Oil Chemists’ Society (AOCS) is now accepting nominations for the award. The deadline for nominations is December 1, 2002. The award recognizes outstanding achievement for research into new applications for glycerine with particular emphasis on commercial viability.

“SDA has long supported the oleochemical industry in its pursuit for new applications and uses for glycerine,” said Ernie Rosenberg, SDA president. “We are proud to be working with AOCS in sponsoring this new, annual award.” SDA is the U.S. trade association home of oleochemical producers for all applications, including cleaning products.

No geographical limits are placed on the award, and the awardee need not be a member of SDA, the industrial oil products division of the AOCS, or AOCS. Self-nominations are permitted. The award, which will include the $3,000 honorarium and a commemorative plaque, will be presented at the 94th AOCS Annual Meeting in Kansas City, Missouri, May 4-7, 2003, where the recipient may deliver an acceptance address.

Nominations should include a letter of nomination (limited to two pages) describing original research work in new applications and uses for glycerine. Particular emphasis will be given to the existing or potential commercial importance of the work. In addition, at least two letters of support, and a copy of the published journal article relating to the research may accompany the nomination.

Completed nominations should be sent to the SDA Glycerine Award Canvassing Chairperson, AOCS, P.O. Box 3489, Champaign, IL, 61826-3489, USA, before December 1, 2002. For more information, contact Kathleen Atchley at AOCS. Tel: (217) 359-2344; Fax: (217) 351-8091; or E-mail: [email protected]
