l Church & Dwight Co Inc., maker of Arm & Hammer baking soda and deodorant, said second quarter profits rose 31% due to cost cuts as it integrated two acquisitions and raised its full-year earnings estimates.
The company posted profit of $24.6 million, compared with $18.7 million a year earlier. The Princeton, NJ-based company said sales fell 0.9% to $256.3 million, partly due to the discontinuation of certain products, and as lower sales of laundry detergent powder and fabric softeners offset higher sales of liquid laundry detergent and exports.
The company said its gross margin increased on benefits from the integration of its acquisition of USA Detergents and Carter-Wallace and cost reduction programs.
