Shiseido will begin selling products in Georgia next month, marking its foray into the country. The Japanese cosmetics firm will offer its luxury flagship brand of makeup and skincare lines through Prestige Ltd., a distributor Shiseido says has “a proven track record in selling luxury cosmetics in country.”

With this latest endeavor, Shiseido’s overseas cosmetic sales will encompass 78 countries and regions (including Japan) throughout the world; 44 countries are in the European region.

Shiseido has been actively pursuing inroads into new markets this year, including Mongolia from the end of May and three Balkan Peninsula countries, beginning with Albania in July followed by Kosovo and Macedonia, respectively, from August and September.

Georgia, one of the Newly Independent States (NIS), is playing a central role as a crucial conduit for crude oil and natural gas pipelines. At the beginning of 2010, signs become apparent that Georgia’s real economic growth rate was once again rising, with the cosmetics market in particular showing a 15% increase versus the previous year, according to Shiseido. Together with the stabilization of its economic foundation, the demand for prestige cosmetic products is expected to expand in the future. In view of this outlook, Shiseido made its decision to enter the market.

Among NIS countries, Georgia will be the fifth country in which Shiseido cosmetic products are sold. Previously, sales were launched in Russia in 1998, Ukraine and Kazakhstan in 2002 and Azerbaijan last year.
