SC Johnson, EarthEcho International and Conservation International has released a new advocacy program to encourage public support for better recycling solutions.

These include advancing legislation on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), a policy framework designed to make producers responsible for the entire lifecycle of their products.

As part of the campaign, SC Johnson surveyed more than 3,000 US adults, revealing a disconnect between people’s feelings about the plastic waste crisis and their own ability to make a difference.

While 83% of Americans are concerned about the scale of the issue, only 28% feel they have a strong understanding of how they can help.

Currently, 2 in 5 people say they strongly believe their recycling efforts make a difference. When asked about who should solve the problem, 86% agree that businesses should take more responsibility for plastic waste.

SC Johnson has also launched a new hub at blueparadox.com that examines the issue of plastic waste and the paradox of that problem with the usefulness of that material.
