Sinks Full of Dishes

As more Americans cook at home during the pandemic, sales of dishwashing detergents are on the rise.

There has been a greater demand for cleaning products during the COVID-19 breakout with consumers stocking up on common household cleaners like disinfectants.

But another home category is seeing growth too, according to data from ResearchAndMarkets.com. The Dublin-based group says dishwashing supplies such as dish soap and dishwasher detergents are expected to grow by 275%.

This rise can be attributed to greater numbers of consumers cooking and eating at home due to the COVID-19 lockdown.

In an online survey conducted by public relations firm Hunter, a 54% of respondents said they are cooking more and 46% are baking more—and that means more dishes and pots and pans to clean every day.

Demand for homecare products continue to remain at elevated levels, according to IRI CPG Demand Index released on Friday, April 24.

Research And Markets says concerns over shortages of hand soap and hand sanitizer has also led to some consumers stocking up on dish soap as an alternative solution for hand-washing, too.

And what’s more, demand looks like it will continue to future. In the Hunter survey, 51% said that they will continue to cook more at home in the future.
