Soap and Hand Sanitizer Maker Raw Sugar Has a New CEO

Michael Marquis has been appointed chief executive officer of Raw Sugar. He succeeds company co-founder Ronnie Shugar. Raw Sugar's other co-founder, Donda Mullis, remains chief marketing officer.

Marquis has extensive experience in the personal care space. Prior to this appointment, he was global president of Vogue International, a Johnson & Johnson company. During his career he has worked on well-known brands including Clean & Clear, Listerine and OGX Beauty.

Marquis joins a company that's in a good space. Raw Sugar's bet on liquid hand soaps and hand sanitizers at the outset of the pandemic lifted sales to about $150 million. Industry sources predict sales will grow 30% this year.

Raw Sugar debuted in Target in 2014. it was acquired by WM Partners in August 2021. The company's portfolio has expanded from hand soaps and body washes to hair care products, deodorants, body scrubs and more. Formulas are billed as naturally derived with vegan ingredients and sustainable packaging.
