The Synthetic Organic Chemical Manufacturers Association (SOCMA) will recognize the winners of its third annual Responsible Care awards program Dec. 8 at SOCMA’s Annual Dinner in New York City. The program is designed to honor manufacturing facilities’ commitments toward practicing Responsible Care, the chemical industry’s voluntary health, safety and environmental initiative.

“Each of these facilities are leaders in the Responsible Care initiative,” said SOCMA president Joseph Acker. “They have developed innovative programs that respond to their unique community needs and business practices.”

SOCMA awarded three facilities the Responsible Care Excellence award, which spotlights chemical facilities that have outstanding Responsible Care programs in place. Winners were chosen in three categories based on company size. The winners are Nufarm Specialty Products in Lobeco, SC (1-100 employees); the Callery Chemical Company in Evans City, PA (101-250 employees); and the Rhodia, Inc. facility in Baltimore, MD (251 employees or more).

Fifty-three other SOCMA member facilities received the Achievement award, based on thorough implementation of Responsible Care, which promotes continuous improvement in the areas of community awareness and emergency response, pollution prevention, process safety, employee health and safety and distribution. A complete list of winners is available on SOCMA’s website at www.socma.org.
