Vitamin C is one of the most popular skin care ingredients that continues to increase in popularity year after year because of its effectiveness at improving the skin's appearance. L-ascorbic acid (ascorbic acid) is water soluble and is the purest form of vitamin C. It has the most skin related research of any form of vitamin C with proven effective anti-aging benefits. The downside of working with ascorbic acid is that it starts to degrade and oxidize in the presence of water, oxygen and light.

Shin-Etsu Silicones (stand 507) has developed a formulation that stabilizes 10% L-ascorbic acid in a non-aqueous emulsion (polyol in oil) with desirable aesthetics. Its unique polyglycerin-modified cross-linked and alkyl-branched emulsifiers (KSG-710 and KF-6105) significantly improved the stability with a light skin feel. Shin-Etsu further enhanced the aesthetics of the formula by incorporating a lighter feeling elastomer gel in a volatile diluent (USG-1010). The final formulation has a non-greasy, velvety texture that absorbs quickly with a powdery, non-tacky after-feel, according to the company.
