Topical Formulation for Raynaud’s Phenomenon

Raynaud's syndrome phenomena in adult hand.

US Patent No.12,070,440 B2 (Edward T. Kisak, John M. Newsam, R. Dominic King-Smith); Permeautus, Inc., Del Mar, CA, has patented a pharmaceutically-acceptable topical composition for treating conditions such as Raynaud’s phenomenon in which peripheral blood flow in a subject is compromised.

The composition is comprised at least 4% weight by weight of nitroglycerin, at least 8% oleic acid, 1.425-1.575% of an emollient comprising a fatty acid ester of an alpha hydroxy acid, 2.85 -3.15% of hydroxypropyl cellulose, and at least 63% by weight of propylene glycol. The  composition is free of both water and hydrocarbon. The nitroglycerin is homogeneously distributed throughout the composition.

Raynaud phenomenon is a common condition, occurring in 3-5% of adults worldwide. It is more common in females than males.
