Topical Treatments Target Redness

Rosacea is a common skin disorder that affects 16 million people in the US. More women suffer from rosacea than men.Chicago-area dermatologist and assistant clinical professor, Northwestern University Medical School, Department of Dermatology, Dr. Amy Forman Taub shares some of the treatments for rosacea with Happi. Topicals include:


* SkinMedica Redness Relief CalmPlex: A bioactive ingredient targets visible redness while soothing skin with hydrating extracts to reduce redness in as little as one week ($80). It contains niacinamide to stimulate circulation among the blood vessels and repairs the skins barrier function. This product’s namesake ingredient, CalmPlex, is an anti-inflammatory that reduces inflammation in the blood vessels.

This ingredient also has significant anti-histamine properties to reduce itch. SymSensitive(4-t-Butylcyclohexanol) is a soothing ingredient that has been shown to reduce hypersensitivity in the skin.

* Skinfo Hydro-nutrients: Includes green tea, which is an anti-inflammatory. This specifically formulated cream utilizes a unique combination of peptides, antioxidants and moisturizers ($116). It combines green tea polyphenols (the most potent form of green tea) and white tea polyphenols to calm inflammation. Peptides plump the skin while a combination of ceramides repair the skin’s barrier function and keep it hydrated.

* Pyratine XR: Clinically proven to rapidly reduce redness, this cream significantly improves skin texture for smoother skin in just days ($138).Safflower seed oil acts as a barrier to prevent moisture loss and glycine soja increases moisture and firmness in your skin. The active ingredient furfuryl tetrahydropyranyladenine minimizes redness.
