Body odor linked to body hair.
March 23, 2016

Body odor issues? Don't blame your deodorant, blame your body hair. A Procter & Gamble Co. study that included a scientist with its Gillette razor division found that men can reduce body odor by shaving the hair from their armpits. No doubt that P&G will use the data to push for more manscaping among Gillette users.
According to a study published in the March issue of the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, bacteria on armpit hair and skin transform odorless sweat into “volatile odiferous substances,” according to the study by six P&G researchers. A type of bacteria more prevalent in men contributes to a more pronounced body odor. Researchers noted that clipping armpit hair with scissors didn’t offer significant improvement in controlling odor, but shaving or waxing did. In a somewhat related announcement, A man who claims he suffered a painful rash on his underarms after using Old Spice deodorant is suing P&G in federal court in Cincinnati. The suit filed on behalf of Rodney Colley of Virginia seeks to make the case a class action against Cincinnati-based P&G, claiming that at least 100 people have been affected by similar rashes and the total amount in damages exceeds $5 million. Gee, if Rodney had shaved his armpits, the rash may have never materialized…razor burn, maybe.
