UK Regulators Look at P&G’s Purchase of Ambi-Pur

The United Kingdom’s Office of Fair Trading might recommend that Procter & Gamble Co.’s acquisition of Sara Lee Corp.’s Ambi Pur line be investigated by the European Commission.

According to a Reuters report, the office said in a statement that it is considering referring the deal to the EU because it “may threaten to significantly affect competition within the territory of the U.K.”

In December, P&G agreed to acquire Ambi Pur from Sara Lee forabout $470 million. Ambi Pur air freshener products are marketed in the U.K. and Europe, and have annual sales in excess of $300 million.

P&G said the potential review is part of the due process for the deal and it is working with regulatory authorities, according to Reuters.
