According to reports, Unilever will eliminate thousands of management positions in an effort to speed decision-making. The move comes following reports that Trian Partners, an activist hedge fund, is building a larger position in Unilever. The company did not issue a statement on the matter.

The headcount reduction is said to be in the low thousands. Targets include executives at several regional and divisional roles at Unilever.

This news follows earlier reports that Unilever would not increase its bid for the consumer health care unit of GlaxoSmithKline
