Unilever Plc/NV wants to keep its Calvin Klein cosmetics brand as it pushes on with the sale of its top perfumes such as Valentino and Karl Lagerfeld, sources close to the auction process said on Monday.

Unilever is in the early stages of selling its top prestige perfumes to focus its attention on mainstream personal care brands such as Dove, Lux, Suave shampoo and Pond’s, but has decided Calvin Klein is too big a brand to let go easily.

Yet, a sale without Calvin Klein would net Unilever only around $400 million, much less than the $1 billion-plus it might get if Calvin Klein was included in the sale of its top fashion fragrances business, Cosmetics International, which also includes such brands as Nautica, Vera Wang and Cerruti.

A Unilever spokesman declined to comment.
