Uniqema announced today that the New Ideas 5K Run/Walk for Charity will be held in Barcelona’s world renowned Olympic Stadium. Starting at its traditional time on the second morning of the In-Cosmetics trade show, 8 AM on the 5th of April, the 6th New Ideas Run/Walk is expected to draw hundreds of runners and walkers from around the world. Over the years, participants in the 5K running course and 2.5K walking course have helped to raise more than €20,000 for charity.  Proceeds from this year’s event will again go to Look Good…Feel Better, a charity that provides free beauty and makeover workshops for cancer patients to address the emotional and appearance related effects of treatment.

Originally constructed in 1929 for both the Barcelona World Fair and an unsuccessful bid for the 1936 Olympics, the stadium was overhauled during the 1980’s in advance of the 1992 Summer Olympic Games.  While the façade remained largely untouched, the interior was completely renovated to include more updated facilities and seating for up to 56,000.  The 1992 Games at Barcelona’s now famed Olympic Stadium saw a record 10,563 athletes from more than 170 nations participate without a single country boycotting.    Robin Brinham, Industry Sales Manager, Health and Personal Care, expressed his excitement at this year’s choice of venue, saying, “We feel that Olympic Stadium is the perfect site for this event, and we’re excited to be holding it here.”  He continued,  “The stadium is not only a representation of athletic excellence, but also stands for the spirit of cooperation and celebration that the New Ideas 5K was founded upon. We’re confident that running and walking in Barcelona will be an enjoyable experience for everyone.”

The New Ideas organizers will once again give awards for the event’s “early bird,” fastest male and female times, company with the most participants and furthest distance traveled. New to the event this year will be special awards honoring the SCC chapter with the highest total percentage of participants, as well as the SCC chapter with the highest overall number of participants.  “The SCC is a great organization that draws together people from all sides of the cosmetic industry,” said Andrew Girdharry, Sales Development Manager Health and Personal Care. “Its only natural that we try to get them more involved in an event that has become a major drawing point at the personal care industry’s most talked about tradeshow.”

Since its inception in 1989, Look Good…Feel Better helped more than 25,000 women through the emotional and appearance related side effects of cancer treatment. Developed by the CTFA Foundation, a charitable organization established by the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association (CTFA), Look Good…Feel Better provides free beauty and makeover workshops where trained beauty professionals take small groups of cancer patients through a skin care and make-up regime, give them products they can use at home and offer them an afternoon of fun and pampering. For each Run/Walk participant, Uniqema has once again pledged to donate €10 to the organization.
