Will Unilever Buy The Honest Company?

Talk on the street says CPG giant is in discussions with natural personal care company.

Is $1 billion a bid too much? The Honest Company is reportedly in talks with Unilever regarding a sale. Not long ago, The Honest Company was valued as much as $1.7 billion, according to industry observers. But after several missteps regarding sun care ingredients and SLS in laundry detergent, Honest isn't quite the catch anymore.
 

The Honest Company has sales of about $300 million, with half coming from personal care and household products. Earlier this year, the company hired Morgan Stanley and Goldman, Sachs & Co. to explore the possibilities of an IPO.


If its acquition of The Honest Company goes through, it will nark Unilever's sixth purchase in the past two years. It bought Dollar Shave Club in July and spent billions to purchase Dermologica, Murad, Kate Somerville and Ren.
