Heat-activated treatments and novel ingredients are driving innovations in scalp health and frizz control.

The “big hair energy” of 2026—think voluminous curls and “waterfall” hair—is signaling big money for the professional hair care category.
The global professional hair care market is projected to reach $57.5 billion by 2033, according to Allied Market Research. Analysts say growing consumer knowledge about high-end hair care products that repair damage, protect color and promote scalp health is driving growth as beauty lovers seek salon-quality results at home.
According to a recent Spate report with the New York Society of Cosmetic Chemists highlighting trends shaping beauty, keratin topped the list of hair care ingredients.
With sleek hairstyles one of 2026’s major trends, L’Oréal Professionnel released its Keratin Alpha Sleek collection. The new system—inclusive of a shampoo, hair mask and treatment—is powered by a patented Keratin-Alpha Shaper + Amino Acid Chain technology that works at hair’s inner structure to smooth texture and deliver a frizz-free finish. Its hero product is the Keratin Alpha Sleek Smooth Transformer. The heat-activated treatment is designed to deliver up to two weeks of frizz control, along with six times smoother strands, 77% more shine and reduced volume, according to the brand.
The makers boast that the collection is a “next generation” alternative to traditional keratin treatments minus the costly service and formaldehyde. The complete smoothing routine, which is suitable for all hair types, features heat-activated technology ideal for enhancing styling performance and longevity, officials said.
Pureology is another brand applying heat activation to turn up results. The brand recently released its Smooth Gloss Silkmorphose Spray, which delivers long-lasting frizz control while shielding hair from humidity for “luxuriously smooth, silky strands,” per the brand. Its ultra-fine texture melts into hair while imparting shine, said the company.
Infused with biotin and amino acids—serine, glycine and alanine—the formula helps support smoother, healthier-looking hair while improving manageability. It is said to provide up to 72 hours of frizz control and shine while protecting tresses from up to 90% humidity. With heat protection up to 450°F, faster blow-dry and diffuser time and lasting style memory for up to 48 hours, it works as a final step to lock in long-lasting sleek, high-gloss hair.
The product works in tandem with the brand’s new Smooth Gloss Shampoo. Inspired by the protein structure of silk, it envelops each strand to smooth the cuticle and shield against humidity, said the company. What’s more, the “creamy” texture transforms into a foam that enhances slip, leaving hair more manageable. When used as part of the Smooth Gloss system, it delivers up to 24 hours of smoothness and curl definition and hair that appears up to 44% shinier, per the brand.
Biolage is addressing scalp health needs for 2026. The brand’s new Hydra Source Serum delivers a “skincare-inspired approach” to hair health, targeting both the scalp and ends for long-lasting moisture, it contends. Powered by a hydration concentrate of micro-filtered aloe vera and fermented hyaluronic acid, the water-based formula works to preserve the scalp’s moisture barrier while transforming dry strands into soft hair. The vegan and paraben- and silicone-free formula is clinically tested to provide continuous hydration. Its non-residue formula absorbs easily without clogging follicles or weighing hair down, said the company. Designed for versatile use, the serum can be applied to wet or dry hair to replenish moisture and maintain balanced hydration from scalp to ends.
Beyond supporting healthy hair, salon brands don’t want consumers to sacrifice their desire for color at the expense of strand health.
To preserve the integrity of hair that is heavily bleached and styled, Nexxus released the Keraphix Damage Repair line. The collection is designed to deliver 34 times stronger hair after one use (versus non-conditioning shampoo) and works on all types and textures of real hair, while helping restore softness, flexibility, vitality and shine, according to the brand. Key ingredients include liquid crystal serine amino acid to reinforce the hair’s protein matrix; cuticle actives to smooth and add shine while forming a protective barrier; and glycerin to improve elasticity and softness.
Another brand keeping hair-coloring damage front of mind is Goddess Maintenance. Its new Armor Protection Mist is a pre-chemical service treatment designed to shift how hair is protected during color and lightening services. With zero processing time, the mist protects the hair’s internal structure during chemical services; improves color retention and reduces fade after five to 10 washes; and strengthens, smooths and boosts shine, according to the brand. The mist, which is engineered to protect hair at the fiber level, was tested by an independent lab which showed a 274% improvement in hair fiber survival probability during bleaching—reportedly the strongest bleach-damage protection the facility has recorded to date, according to Goddess Maintenance.
Armor Protection Mist is part of a “bioprotection kit,” which also includes the brand’s new BioTech Blowout Leave-In Restorative Mask. When used together, the system reduces breakage from lighteners by 37.5% while providing heat protection up to 450°F. The system also purports a 38% improvement in curl retention and eight-hour style memory in 50% humidity without buildup. Hair fiber thickness was also increased, according to the company.
K18 is another brand looking to change the game around optimizing the health of color-treated hair. The biotech haircare company recently launched TripleBright Oxidation Defense Purple Shampoo.
TripleBright is designed to address the root causes of dull, oxidized blonde in one system. It removes up to three months of mineral buildup in one wash, helping to restore tone and improve light reflection at the surface of the hair, according to K18.
An optimized violet pigment system neutralizes unwanted yellow tones with calibrated precision—correcting brassiness while minimizing over-deposition and staining. Delivered through a lightweight foam for even distribution, the precision technology ensures controlled application and consistent toning from root to tip. A lightweight biopolymer helps protect the hair from additional metal and mineral build-up that could occur at subsequent washing, helping preserve brightness between salon visits.
Together, these three mechanisms work beyond tone correction—helping reset blonde hair to look “blonde like new,” while also refreshing highlighted and lifted tones, said the company.
“For decades, the industry has treated brassiness as a surface-level color issue, when in reality, oxidation is a chemistry problem that distorts tone over time,” said Suveen Sahib, co-founder and CEO of K18. “Whether hair is lightened in the salon or at home, oxidative stress and mineral buildup compromise clarity. TripleBright was engineered to correct that distortion at its source.”
Beyond the sleek, quiet luxury hairstyles dominating the year, another major hair trend of 2026 is big hair and bold styles.
Paul Mitchell redefined the “modern blonde” through the lens of California-cool glamour with brand ambassador Paris Hilton in a recent promotion.
Rooted in Paul Mitchell’s Los Angeles heritage, the brand’s latest campaign, “Stay Golden,” spotlights its Icons of Summer edit, designed to deliver healthy, high-impact blonde with assorted Paul Mitchell products.
Celebrity colorist and Paul Mitchell pro partner Tauni Dawson created Hilton’s new signature hue, “Hot Honey Blonde.” Billed as a softer, more dimensional take on her signature Y2K blonde, the haircolor reflects “today’s shift toward luminous, natural-looking color with an emphasis on hair health, shine and movement,” said the company.
The Paul Mitchell hair product lineup features multitasking essentials including the 15-in-1 Leave-In Mask, 15-in-1 Spray and Super Skinny Serum as well as the Forever Blonde system alongside a professional Pre-Bonded Lightener—all designed to brighten, strengthen and maintain blonde with pro-level results, officials said.
Another hair color brand leveraging summer-centric hair shades for festival season is Hayley Williams’ Good Dye Young. The newest addition to its Creator Colors Collection is bubblegum pink. Teaming up with creator Miranda Rae, the Meet Baddie hair hue is a semi-permanent shade. Infused with ethically sourced mica, the formula delivers “main character confidence” designed to help haircolor consumers feel confident taking the pink plunge, says the brand.
Texture is also imperative in today’s professional hairstyling category.
For example, Aveda’s new Tousle Texture Dry Texture Spray is designed to deliver “touchable texture without dryness or stickiness,” said the brand. Beyond imparting volume to limp strands, the multitasker offers heat protection and refreshes styles between washes. It is ideal for fine to medium hair types across textures 1A–3C, officials say.
Co-created with Aveda Artists, the vegan formula is fueled by zeolite minerals that provide an airy texture while cassava extract helps boost volume and keep styles in place. The result is a “lived-in texture that still feels soft, movable and brushable,” according to the brand.
Aveda Tousle Texture is also infused with the brand’s signature aroma—a blend of 25 pure flower and plant essences including lavender, ylang ylang and petitgrain—aiming to transform routine styling into an elevated ritual, the brand says.
As foodie trends continue to consume the attention of voracious beauty lovers, Matrix put some food for thought in its latest haircare innovation: Food For Soft XXL Big ‘N Soft Mousse.
The mousse is designed to deliver “show-stopping volume” without compromising on softness, per Matrix. It expands on the brand’s best-selling Food For Soft franchise.
Engineered for consumers who want both volume and moisture without the stiffness, the formula delivers two times more volume while keeping hair soft for up to 12 hours. The mousse aims to yield bounce and body as well. Formulated without drying alcohols or salts, ensuring a flexible, residue-free finish, Food for Soft is powered by a blend of hyaluronic acid and avocado oil, which work together to help retain moisture, plump hair fibers and support long-lasting volume without weighing hair down.
The mousse features an airy foam texture with a fragrance of vanilla and amber, elevating both “performance and sensorial” experience, said the company. Key benefits include 450°F heat protection and 12 hours of softness without residue.
“Most volumizing mousses give you lift, but at the expense of softness or hydration,” said Castillo Bataille, Matrix brand ambassador. “What makes this formula so exciting is how it delivers that full, amplified look while keeping the hair incredibly touchable. It’s light, it’s buildable and it works acrosstextures, which is a game changer behind the chair.”
With the boom of the men’s grooming market, Moroccanoil has entered the chat. The brand recently made a foray into men’s grooming with Sculpting Pomade. “Styling is one of the most expressive categories in hair. It’s where performance and identity meet,” Robert Ham, senior vice president, global education at Moroccanoil, told Happi. “The Sculpting Pomade was a very intentional addition to fill a clear gap in the styling portfolio.”
He added that consumer feedback highlighted the demand for a product that delivers strong sculpting control while feeling lightweight. The formula delivers structure and hold without feeling greasy or heavy and remains reworkable throughout the day. Plus, its water base allows for easy washout and leaves no residue behind, addressing a major consumer preference for low-maintenance, clean-feeling styling products.
“Whether someone is wearing a textured crop, a polished pompadour or embracing natural texture and curls, the pomade helps enhance movement, refines detail and gives the hair a lived-in finish that still feels elevated and intentional,” Ham said.
