Board Approves Changing of the Guard at Shiseido

Kentaro Fujiwara will become director, representative corporate executive officer, president and CEO on Jan. 1, 2025.

On January 1, 2025, Kentaro Fujiwara will become director, representative corporate executive officer, president and CEO of Shiseido Company Limited. He will take the c-suite post upon the retirement of Masahiko Uotani.

Fujiwara is currently director, representative corporate executive officer, president and COO.

Effective January 1, 2025, Uotani will act as a senior advisor for the Shiseido Group and, upon request by the management team, will “provide advice, support talent development, engage in external relations, etc,” the company announced.

Uotani will be retiring as a director of Shiseido at the conclusion of the ordinary general meeting of shareholders scheduled for the end of March .

Planned Succession

In 2019 Shiseido began a five-year CEO succession plan. At its board of directors meeting in 2022, Fujiwara was appointed as a CEO candidate to the position of president and COO, which was announced along with the planned retirement in of Uotani at the end of 2024.

According to Shiseido, two have been working together to complete a successful leadership transition.
