Sales at beauty conglomerate Ulta have soared in the most recent quarter ending July 31, 2021: One of the world’s largest beauty retailers reported net sales of almost $2 billion.

The beauty giant’s earnings this year have nearly doubled from last year’s net sales, which were $1.2 billion. This quarter’s profits reflect an increase of 6.2% over its net sales in 2019, pre-Covid-19. The net income for its most recent quarter was $250 million, reflecting an increase of $8 million compared to the 2020 quarter.

According to Ulta CEO Dave Kimbell, consumer confidence, optimism and comfort shopping in stores are attributed to the increase in net sales. In-person shopping has accounted for the drop in e-commerce sales; roughly 20% of online shoppers make their purchases online and pick up their merchandise in stores.

The beauty category is recovering faster than anticipated, success of which has been contingent upon the retailer’s investments to adapt to the market disruption and leadership-strengthening strategies, Kimbell said.

This month, Ulta Beauty opened dozens of shop-in-shops with Target featuring roughly 50 high-end beauty brands. Because shoppers are gravitating towards the current trend of beauty being rooted in wellness, Ulta has recently launched the wellness shop in select stores and online at Ulta.com
