Amyris Buys Clean Beauty Retailer Onda Beauty

Biotech company's cosmetics stable already includes Biossance, Pipette and JVN Hair.

Amyris has purchased Onda Beauty, a clean beauty retailer. Amyris, a biotech company with positions in several industries, is no stranger to the beauty market. Amyris already owns Biossance, Pipette, JVN Hair, Costa Brazil and Terasana

A purchase price was not disclosed. Also not disclosed was Amyris' plans for the retailer. A company spokesman only said the move, “aligns with Amyris' strategy to deepen its relationships with consumers.”

In 2014, Onda Beauty was cofounded by Larissa Thompson, Sarah Bryden-Brown and actress Naomi Watts. It has two stores in New York City and Sag Harbor. The retailer offers a mix of brands that meet its criteria, which includes a no-list of ingredients 79 items long and guidelines for synthetic ingredients.
