Cosmetic Ingredient Review Panel Conducts 163rd Meeting Regarding Safety Assessments

At the 163rd meeting of the Cosmetic Ingredient Review Expert Panel, held in Washington, DC on Dec. 5-6, final safety assessments for personal care and beauty components and other news were unveiled.

Here are the results from the December 2022 session:

• Fatty Ethers – 8 ingredients – Safe 

• Ginger – 9 ingredients – Split conclusion (8 safe with qualifications; 1 insufficient data)

Tentative Safety Assessments


• Basic Yellow 87 – 1 ingredient – Safe for use in hair dye products

• Mallow – 8 ingredients – Safe with qualifications

• Octyldodecyl Stearoyl Stearate – 1 ingredient – Safe with qualifications
• Phytosteryl Glutamates – 3 ingredients – Insufficient data
