Daikon Radish Oil is a unique, extremely light-colored, and odorless triglyceride derived from the seeds of commercial daikon radish, according to Natural Plant Products (Booth No. 300).

The value of Daikon Radish Oil lay in its fatty acid composition which differs greatly from the C16 and C18 dominated fatty acid composition that typifies so many edible and cosmetic grade oils. Composed of an atypical mixture of C18, C20, and C22 fatty acids, it offers a new chemistry to formulators. The oil imparts a delicate slip with good absorption, and presents a sensory profile more closely associated with esters and silicone type emollients.

In a preliminary study, Daikon Radish Oil showed a marked decrease in transepidermal water loss (TEWL) at the fifteen minute mark. Natural Plant Products is expanding the TEWL test to measure the Daikon Radish Oil against Meadowfoam Seed Oil, Dimethicone, and Isopropyl Palmitate at different time intervals up to four hours. Furthermore, Natural Plant Products has conducted a spreadability test which has confirmed that Daikon Radish Oil acts like a triglyceride regardless of the unique ester-like feel. Additionally, Natural Plant Products is currently conducting a corneometer test to further confirm moisturization properties and efficacy testing.
