Destination Healthy Skin—The Skin Cancer Foundation’s mobile skin cancer education and screening program—is out on the road, and dsm-firmenich is back as a sponsor for the third year to helping raise awareness about sun safety.

The Destination Healthy Skin RV, equipped with two private exam rooms, travels around the country visiting 24 cities from April to November, spending two days in each community it visits. Local volunteer dermatologists provide free full-body skin cancer screenings on board the RV. Participants receive skin cancer prevention and early detection literature.

“Our team at dsm-firmenich Beauty & Care is deeply committed to ensuring everyone stays ‘Safer Under The Sun.’ Through our innovation, regulatory leadership, and advocacy efforts, we strive to improve public health every day. We are passionate about offering modern, responsible formulation solutions with our Parsol UV filters for sunscreen and beauty care products. By sponsoring the life-saving initiative Destination Healthy Skin and working closely with The Skin Cancer Foundation and top sunscreen and beauty brands, we aim to raise awareness and provide essential sun protection. This collaboration allows us to make a positive impact on people’s lives, bringing beauty and health to the forefront of everyday life,” said Vicki Barboiu, senior director, dsm-firmenich Beauty & Care, NA.

In June, dsm-firmenich was in Washington, DC meeting with officials about skin cancer, the urgent need for advanced sunscreen formulations to protect public health, and the importance of industry-government collaborations.

The Skin Cancer Foundation has provided more than 32,000 free skin cancer screenings, working with volunteer dermatologists to identify more than 12,000 potential skin cancers and precancers, including 550 suspected melanomas. More than 100,000 people have received free skin cancer educational materials and sun protection products through the program.

“The Destination Healthy Skin program provides skin exams for many people who otherwise may not have had either the idea or the opportunity,” says Becky Kamowitz, executive director of the Foundation. “It’s likely that many of the probable skin cancers identified onboard our RV would have gone undetected if it weren’t for this program and our volunteer dermatologists. We’re grateful to partners like dsm-firmenich, whose support helps us bring this crucial public service to communities around the country. We know from our participants’ comments and follow-ups that DHS has saved lives.”

Free skin cancer screenings from local dermatologists, informational brochures and dsm-firmenich Safer UNDER THE Sun bags filled with sunscreen samples will be available at all select locations of the RV while it travels on its journey across the US.

Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States with 1 in 5 Americans developing this highly preventable cancer by the age of 70.
