Galderma Laboratories has rolled out Excipial, a new therapeutic skincare line precisely engineered for challenged skin. The line will be sold over the counter and without a prescription.

The Excipial line includes  Excipial Daily Protection Hand Cream and Excipial Rapid Repair Hand Cream, Excipial 10% Urea Hydrating Healing Lotion and Excipial 20% Urea Intensive Healing Cream, as well as Excipial for Bruising, an oral supplement.

“Galderma is rooted in skin science, and our Excipial formulations were medically designed with a keen understanding of how the skin works and how to best counteract challenging skin conditions,” said Miles Harrison, VP and GM of the self-medication business unit of Galderma Laboratories, L.P. “With the launch of this advanced therapeutic line, our goal is to deliver on precise, scientifically driven solutions to help individuals with every skin type achieve targeted results.”

In clinical studies, the new Excipial Protect and Repair line, which includes Excipial Daily Protection Hand Cream and Excipial Rapid Repair Hand Cream was shown to significantly reduce TEWL. A key ingredient in the Daily Protection Hand Cream is aluminum hydrochlorate, providing glove-like protection around the skin that helps contain the natural oils or lipids, preventing evaporation or diffusion. The Rapid Repair Hand Cream includes tocopherol, providing end of day relief for hard-working hands as well as ingredients to soothe dry, itchy skin.

Another key ingredient is Urea, a natural component of the skin's tissues which makes up 7% of its NMF.  While several over the counter products currently contain some percentage of urea, the new Excipial line includes a lotion and cream that contain significantly more urea than commonly found, providing more intensive relief, according to Galderma. Excipial 10% Urea Hydrating Healing Lotion is an all over healing lotion that continuously hydrates to heal dry skin and soothe itchy, rough skin. Excipial 20% Urea Intensive Healing Cream is a fast-acting cream that hydrates to heal dry skin and sloughs away extremely dry or damaged skin on hands, elbows, knees and feet. It restores the skin's natural hydrating system and deeply moisturizes to smooth away cracked, rough skin.

Excipial for Bruisingi s an oral supplement specially formulated to minimize the appearance of bruising and support healthy-looking skin. It supports blood vessel health with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, and is ideally used for bruising due to senile purpura, which typically affects elderly patients as their skin tissues weaken and blood vessels become more fragile. This can lead to developing persistent dark purple discoloration of the skin resulting from bleeding underneath, giving the appearance of bruising. Normally, the discoloration is confined to the hands and forearms, and the bruising can appear without recognized trauma. This discoloration may clear over weeks to months or may be permanent. Some medicines, including aspirin and corticosteroids may even exacerbate the condition.

All of the Excipial products are available exclusively at CVS in-store and online. The line will be available at additional national retail and online outlets beginning in January.
