One single kick. One million dollars. That dream may come true for one football (soccer) fan in 2002. Through the Gillette Shoot for $1 Million promotion, announced today in nearly 50 countries worldwide, consumers will have the opportunity to attend the 2002 FIFA World Cup Final in Yokohama and earn a once-in-a-lifetime chance to attempt a kick worth $1 million US.

The Gillette promotion will be held between Jan. 1 and April 30, with qualifying contests held in each participating country. The most common qualifying contest will be Spot the Ball, whereby entrants must view a FIFA World Cup photograph with the ball missing and try to surmise its location in the original photograph. The winner will be selected at random from among those who correctly placed the ball in the correct location. Some countries may choose alternate methods of entry.

The estimated 70 winners from around the world (some countries will have more than one winner) will earn a five-day trip to Japan, including tickets to the 2002 FIFA World Cup Final. During the trip, they will participate in events to qualify for the Shoot for $1Million kick.

“The Gillette Company has been a longtime supporter of the world’s most popular sport,” said Richard Cantwell, VP-marketing services for The Gillette Company. “Our sponsorship showcases the company’s truly global reach and the importance we place on FIFA World Cup football as an effective vehicle to reach hundreds of millions of consumers throughout the world.”
