Judge Declares Mistrial in New J&J Talc Case; New Jury Selection Next Week

According to a report from Law360, a California judge has cut short a trial in which a woman alleges she developed mesothelioma from using Johnson & Johnson’s talcum powder products. The California jury began hearing opening statements on Friday in what was the first lawsuit to go to trial over these claims.
 
The judge declared a mistrial because the woman referenced ovarian cancer, which had been prohibited by a pre-trial ruling, according to another report posted by Courtroom View Network. Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge C. Edward Simpson told the jury that he had decided to declare a mistrial and that election of a new jury would begin sometime next week.
