L’Oréal Patents Cite Achiella, Mangiferin in Cosmetics

L’Oréal has recently earned two US patents related to its cosmetics business.

In US Patent No. 10,624,836 B2 (Joan Eilstein, Corinne Ferraris) L'Oréal has patented a cosmetic method for preventing and/or treating the signs of skin aging that comprises applying a composition of  essential oil of Achillea, as an active agent. The essential oil of Achillea comprises the following compounds, each present at more than 5% by weight relative of the total weight of the essential oil: artemisia ketone, chrysanthenone (two combined isomers), and ascaridole.

A second recently issued patent centers on mangiferin in cosmetics.

In US Patent No. 10,624,830 B2 (Yang Deng, Zhi Pan, Anne-Laure Suzanne Bernard, Shan Wu) L’Oreal has patented a cosmetic composition that contains mangiferin; at least one hydrotrope selected from caffeine, vitamin B3 and combinations thereof;  at least one polymeric precipitation inhibitor selected from hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, hydroxypropyl cellulose, and combinations thereof; at least one cyclodextrin selected from alpha-cyclodextrin, beta-cyclodextrin, gamma-cyclodextrin, hydroxypropyl-beta-cyclodextrin, hydroxypropyl-gamma-cyclodextrin, other cyclodextrin derivatives and combinations thereof; and solvent. The ccomposition has a pH that is at or below pH 5 and demonstrates stability against crystallization of mangiferin at 4° C. at a pH that is less than 5.
