Procter & Gamble Co. was one of 12 national firms named to Working Mother magazine’s “2006 Best Companies for Women of Color.” The consumer products company has 29,700 employees, of which more than 2,100 are women of color, the magazine said in a profile. Of those, 976 hold management positions. Procter & Gamble has made an effort to boost women into leadership positions, with a particular focus on women of color, the magazine said. Each business unit receives an annual diversity review, and meeting diversity goals helps increase a manager’s chance for a promotion. At Procter, six women of color are vice presidents, a 50% increase. In the past three years, about 50% of new management hires have been women, and 42% of that number have been women of color, Working Mother said.
