The American Cleaning Institute Hires Sustainability Manager

Industry organization adds Michael Ellis to the team.

The American Cleaning Institute (ACI) welcomed Michael Ellis to its sustainability team.

Ellis will serve as Sustainability Manager at ACI, supporting both ongoing programs and the development of new initiatives that advance industry-wide sustainability progress, advocacy, knowledge building and outreach.

In his role, he will leverage data analysis, project management and subject matter expertise to cross-collaborate with other ACI departments and support member priorities. Ellis will also lead the development of ACI’s 2026 Sustainability Report.

“Michael’s research experience and knowledge of the industry will add tremendous value for our members and sustainability program,” said Emily Trentacope, Ph.D., ACI Vice President of Sustainability. “His efforts and support will bolster ACI’s leadership in sustainability and innovation for the cleaning products supply chain.”

Prior to joining ACI, Ellis worked as a sustainability consultant for Environmental Resources Management, as well as a research associate for ISS Stoxx.

He holds dual Bachelor of Arts degrees, one in Environmental and Sustainability Studies and one in Economics, from Indiana University, as well as a Master of Arts in Economics from Clemson University. Ellis also earned Certificates in Environmental and Natural Resources Policy as well as Carbon Accounting.

Updated Corporate Climate Framework

In December 2025, ACI provided input on the latest draft of its Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) Corporate Net-Zero Standard.

The SBTi is updating its Net-Zero Standard to reflect the latest climate science and respond to companies’ real-world implementation needs.

After submitting feedback earlier this year, ACI was pleased that several of its suggestions were included in the latest draft. Learn more here.
