Owned by a company born in DTC, it’s no wonder DECIEM’s The Ordinary took to Instagram to talk directly to customers about a pending price hike in the new year.

Part of The Ordinary's Instagram post.
In an Instagram post, the company wrote:

“As the world continues to face rising costs, it's important that we review all areas of our business, to ensure we are able to operate sustainably and responsibly long into the future. This is the way we will bring good products at sensible price points to many more people around the world — and how we will continue to take good care of our team.”

Now part of The Estée Lauder Companies, The Ordinary said it had “absorbed some of this internally” while sharing with IG followers that it would continue to work towards “making our supply chain as efficient as possible.” The skincare company cited the shuttering of Hylamide, and the whittling down of  “low volume categories like colours.”

The price changes are effective January 1, 2023, with average change cited to be “$1.12 USD.”  As an example, a 30ml supply of Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA would rise from $5.80 to $6.50, according to the company.

The Ordinary noted some anomalies in their price structure; for example, its best-selling Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% would drop from $6.50 to $6 in January.

“We found a cost saving in our supply chain, and we are happy to pass this saving on to you,” noted the brand ini ts post.
