Dial has made a big push into sustainable personal care and a low-waste future with new its new Dial Foaming Hand Concentrated Refill packets. The packets mix with water to make a full-size bottle of Dial Foaming Hand Wash. Using one refill pack uses 95% less plastic than purchasing a Dial 7.5 fl oz Foaming Hand Wash, according to the brand, which is part of Henkel.

The launch comes at a time when consumers are washing their hands more than ever. According to some estimates, the average consumer uses more than eight single use plastic bottles per year.

Dial's new concentrated formulation.
The new concentrated Dial formula was dermatologist tested and made for all skin types.

According to Martina Spinatsch, vice president of R&D, beauty care at Henkel, the team at Dial also worked to insure that the formulation was compatible with tap water sources across the US, which can range from soft to hard.

The formulation, which is free from parabens, phthalates, silicones, SLS and SLES, is available in three scents: Aloe, Lavender
and Sea Breeze.

The redesigned Dial Liquid Hand Soap refill bottles to be made with 100% Social Plastic from Plastic Bank (excluding the cap). This  switch will help save more than 6 million pounds of carbon emissions in 2022 by using 100% PCR for its refill bottles, according to the brand.

Dial is collaborating with TerraCycle to help consumers easily recycle Dial pumps, caps, bar packaging (the plastic wrap and waxed paper), and concentrated refill packets. The refill cartons are made with 100% paper-based cardboard and the packets are also recyclable through TerraCycle.com.

According to Dial, the concentrated Refills help reduce carbon emissions in transportation by 85%.

The Dial Concentrated Refill, which was named 2022 Product of the Year winner, is sold in a starter kit with three packs for less than $5 and a 2-pack refill is $3.47.

The venerable Dial brand, which traces its history back nearly 75 years, continues to evolve, both in marketing and sustainability.

For example, its marketing campaign includes a collaboration with music producer/composer Andrew Huang who created a custom song using just soap.

Sustainability

By the end of 2022, Dial plans for most of its Liquid Hand Soap Refills and Dial Foaming Hand Soap Refills to be made using Social Plastic from Plastic Bank, which is recycled plastic feedstock that drives environmental, social, and economic impact.

“We are excited to extend our partnership with Henkel and launch our first North American product program with Dial, a brand that is committed to the regeneration of the world's oceans. By integrating Social Plastic into its products and packaging, Dial is creating lasting environmental, social, and economic impact,” said David Katz, founder and CEO of Plastic Bank.

In addition to its collaboration with TerraCycle and Social Plastic, Dial’s is  working with Solidaridad, an international non-profit that will enable farmers and workers to earn a living income, produce in balance with nature and will help ensure the traceability of some of ingredients from farm to soap bar. Dial will provide a three-year grant for a project in Colombia, providing technical support, training, and financing to enable farmers to increase RSPO certified production.
