Biocogent has launched DermaPhage CA (Proposed INCI: Water (and) Cutibacterium acnes bacteriophages), a combination of natural bacteriophages for balancing the microbiome of blemish-prone skin. The material targets Cutibacterium acnes with a cocktail of three lytic bacteriophages, which are said to selectively diminish the overpopulation of C. acnes to restore natural balance and health of the skin microbiome.

According to Biocogent, extensive bioassays demonstrate that DermaPhage CA safely and effectively controls C. acnes and associated inflammation while preserving beneficial microbes associated with a balanced, healthy skin microbiome. Further, it potently reduces the formation of C. acnes biofilms and the production of IL-8.

In clinical trials, DermaPhage CA visibly reduced the amounts of coproporphyrin III on the face. By controlling C. acnes populations on the skin, DermaPhage CA addresses microbial imbalances to achieve a significant reduction in blemished features. At use levels from 0.5-3.0%, DermaPhage CA is recommended for face and body products, bedding and linen sprays, and laundry detergents and additives.
