The Fragrance Foundation (TFF) welcomed a sold-out crowd of more than 1,000 attendees to the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center on June 11 for the annual awards presentation.
The Lifetime Achievement Perfumer Award was presented to Honorine Blanc, master perfumer, DSM-Firmenich. Voted on by the TFF executive committee and the heads of five fragrance houses on the TFF board of directors, the award honors a perfumer who has made a significant contribution to the fragrance industry and produced a legendary body of work.
Patrick Firmenich, executive and former CEO of Firmenich, presented the award.
During her acceptance speech, Blanc extended her gratitude to the “American Dream.”
Born in Beirut, Blanc fled Lebanon for Paris at 16 to escape the country’s turbulent political circumstances and found solace in her garden. There, she studied mathematics and chemistry before starting a successful career in fragrance. Her career blossomed when she left the City of Light for the Big Apple where she made her home.
To date, Blanc has crafted more than 200 perfumes for over 50 prestigious brands including Yves Saint Laurent, Juicy Couture, Goldfield & Banks, House of Bo and Valentino. Colleagues at The Estée Lauder Companies – for which she developed 23 of its Aerin fragrances – praised her sense of style, vision, level of perfection and “impressionistic” fragrances.
Her latest creation, Cedar Jasmine 1986, was crafted exclusively for the evening’s festivities and scented the lobby of the theater.
“Stay true to your vision,” she said. “Embrace discipline, resilience and creative courage. Perfumery is both an art and a craft. It demands authenticity above all.”
Estée Lauder Companies Executive Vice President Jane Herzmark Hudi presented the TFF 2026 Hall of Fame Award to Jamie Nordstrom, chief merchandising officer of Nordstrom Inc., on behalf of the elite retailer. The accolade reflects “remarkable leadership” and “transformative impact” on the American fragrance industry.
What started a single store in Seattle in 1901 grew to a “retail destination” where fashion, beauty and service come together with a promise to help all customers feel good and look their best with great products and unparalleled service, according to store officials.
“We’ve been able to grow our fragrance business because it’s about the people,” said Nordstrom during his acceptance speech. “We know that this business is not about transactions. You don’t build loyalty through points and promotions. You build loyalty by doing a good job for the customers by helping them look and feel their best. When we do that right, we build something special together.”
The evening was indeed a special one. Fragrance Foundation Chairman Jerry Vittoria said the awards show would be his final one before his retirement. TFF President Linda G. Levy praised him for being a “true advocate” for the fragrance community and the foundation’s “greatest supporter” in the near decade they’ve spent working together.
“Through innovation, technology and our commitment to nature and science, our category has remained resilient and agile and at the top of our game,” he said, pointing to the growing number of successful launches and new trends from all “corners of the world.”
Model Iman and actress and Henry Rose Founder Michelle Pfeiffer paid tribute to the legacies of the late Valentino Garavani and Giorgio Armani, who both passed away in the last year at ages 94 and 91, respectively.
Iman praised Valentino for being an emblem of “extraordinary beauty in the most real and inclusive form.” Pfeiffer praised Armani for being kind, generous and loyal” in a way that this industry doesn’t always reward, but that he practiced without exception.”
Additional presenters included Grammy nominated country singer Kelsea Ballerini; former NBA star Dwyane Wade, who is the global ambassador and face of Intuition by Aramis; designer Vera Wang; Cassandra Grey, founder of Madame Grey and Violet Grey; Wed Gordan, creative director, Carolina Herrera; and Wonny Lee and Su min Park, cofounders of Elorea.
Artist and illustrator Melissa Koby collaborated with TFF to create two original works inspired by scent.
