Cannabis-derived CBD, or cannabidiol, is attracting a great deal of attention as a luxury beauty and wellness ingredient—attention that’s led to an explosion of new product launches across the entire beauty spectrum. The CBD category is awash with indie brands playing off the CBD trend, but many have untested products making nebulous claims that contain little active CBD. Regarded by some as the next big thing in beauty, CBD is causing a stir, but lack of clarity of its legal status in many countries is making the multinationals wary of moving into this space.
