Established in 1996, Jeen International is a privately-held manufacturer and supplier of specialty ingredients and formulation designs serving the cosmetic, personal care, fragrance and pharmaceuticals industries.
In 1998, while Jeen was still in its early startup stage, Founder and President Adam Perle onboarded Marie Thadal. A driven Haitian immigrant and a mother of three, Thadal became the very first hire to manage sales for the company. Despite her previous sales experience, it was Perle who kickstarted Thadal’s career in the cosmetic industry. Thadal diligently began establishing Jeen’s name within the industry. Before long, Thadal also began promoting plant-based ingredients by BotanicalsPlus, a woman-owned business founded by Jeanne Perle. Within a short period, new business relationships were established, and orders were being shipped across the US and Canada.
While working for Jeen, Thadal discovered the Cosmetic Science Master’s program at Fairleigh Dickinson University. She entered the program to become proficient as a cosmetic scientist and Adam Perle supported this endeavor by allowing flexibility in her work schedule—something she could not have pursued without such cooperation.
In 2004, Thadal launched her own consulting company. Jeen was one of the first companies to give her a contract.
“Good mentors and sponsors, like the Perles, were hard to find in those days” says Thadal.
In 2017, Thadal visited her homeland, Haiti, which was still devastated by the severe earthquake that had struck seven years prior. Knowing that education is the most effective route to a better life, she felt compelled to provide support to the students at the elementary school she had once attended before immigrating to the US. A year later, with a group of like-minded individuals, Thadal founded Itiah Angels for Learning, a nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming the lives of children and their families in Haiti.
When the Perles heard of Thadal’s initiative, their first instinct was to help the students achieve their full potential, just like Thadal. The Perle family is not new to philanthropy. While growing their businesses, the Perles have partaken in various humanitarian efforts, which have included making generous financial contributions to Don Bosco Prep High School and USASA.org, just to name two. As a means to support the younger Haitian generations through education and resources, both Jeen and BotanicalsPlus have sponsored the full tuition for the most impoverished 100 elementary school students for the 2021-2022 academic year. Their generous donations will allow Itiah Angels for Learning volunteers to focus on raising funds to build new classrooms, equip classrooms with interactive whiteboards and establish technology, music and language programs for Haitian youth.
“Our goal is to raise awareness and motivate the beauty industry to further support such philanthropic efforts that provide Haiti with the tools and resources necessary for the younger generations to thrive in the long run.
Education is that key tool. Education yields to career opportunities. That is why we chose to support Itiah Angels for Learning,”said Jeanne Perle of BotanicalsPlus.
