Momentive’s new SilForm flexible resin will be among the breakthrough personal care solutions featured at the New York Society of Cosmetic Chemists’ 2009 Suppliers Day Conference, taking place May 12-13 at the New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center in Edison, NJ. A film-forming, flexible resin that mimics the movement of skin for a comfortable, pliable feel, SilForm flexible resin has demonstrated great potential for applications such as color cosmetics, sun care formulations and anti-aging lotions, according to the company.
By offering strong non-transfer properties typically associated with silicone resins, SilForm flexible resin has demonstrated an improvement over traditional MQ resins, with greater flexibility and longer lasting overall comfort, according to Momentive. In addition, by minimizing transepidermal water loss (TEWL), SilForm flexible resin may allow personal care formulators to combat the drying and tightening of skin that is associated with traditional film formers. The material’s outstanding water and oil resistance also makes it an excellent choice to consider for lip care products.
“Consumers are increasingly demanding skin and sun care products that maintain suppleness, flexibility and a ‘just applied’ look and feel,” said Beatriz Blanco, global marketing manager, personal care, Momentive. “SilForm flexible resin can help provide comfort and long-lasting wearability in a wide range of personal care solutions, while reducing color transfer and maintaining moisture levels.”
Also new from Momentive is Silsoft* A+ conditioning agent which was
developed for potential use by personal care manufacturers in formulating
clear and opaque shampoos, conditioners, hair color and styling products for frizzy or damaged hair.
Based on patented silicone technology from Momentive, Silsoft A+
conditioning agent is a virtually surfactant-free emulsion that typically
demonstrates more effective deposition of conditioning agents on damaged
hair, compared to traditional amino silicones. This enhanced deposition can
translate to better performance for the same amount of ingredient,
potentially resulting in a significant cost-savings benefit for manufacturers, in addition to a higher level of consumer satisfaction. Silsoft A+ conditioning agent¹s proposed INCI designation is Polysilicone X (and) glycerin (and) DPG.
Silsoft A+ conditioning agent can measurably improve the fiber to fiber
alignment of hair, allowing hairs to remain parallel to each other and
resulting in a visibly smoother and shinier appearance. It can also improve
curl definition for curly hair and aid in moisture retention, according to Momentive.
