26th IFSCC Congress Opens Sept. 20 in Buenos Aires
“Innovation & Responsibility: Cosmetics Forever” is the theme of the 26th IFSCC Congress, scheduled for Sept. 20-23 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Congress organizers have created a slate of keynote lecturers with international flair.
Opening the Congress on Monday, Sept. 20 is a keynote lecture by Robert Y. Lochhead of the U.S. Dr. Lochhead’s presentation is “Innovative Formulation Strategies to Meet the Cosmetic Needs of an Ecologically Aware Global Community.”
The keynote lecture on Tuesday, Sept. 21 is “Nanotechnology: The Small and the Beautiful,” by Elizabeth Jares-Erijman of Argentina.
“Anti-Aging Skin Care for Cutaneous Photo-Aging” is the subject of the Wednesday, Sept. 22 keynote presentation. The speaker is Satoshi Amano of Japan.
Gillian M. Celestin of the U.K will present the Thursday keynote lecture, “The Microstructure and Properties of Fluid and Semisolid Lotions and Creams.”
Online registration for IFSCC is open until Aug 27.
2011 Scientific Seminar Podium Abstracts Due Sept. 15
The Society of Cosmetic Chemists’ Committee on Scientific Affairs has issued a call for papers for podium presentations at the 2011 Annual Scientific Seminar, which will be held June 2-3, 2011 at the Bellagio Resort in Las Vegas, NV.
All presenters will be eligible for the Shaw Mudge Award sponsored by BASF Corporation, which is given for the Best Paper presented at the Society’s Annual Seminar. The honorarium for this award is $2,500.
Authors are invited to submit titles and abstracts of no more than 150 words for original papers to be presented in podium format. All topics related to cosmetic science will be considered for presentation. Topics of particular interest for submission of abstracts include epigenetics/genetics; bio-physical testing; innovation in packaging with a focus on green; molecular structure versus sorption-desorption of materials from hair and skin surface; new technology in formulating and evaluating hair care products; and risk assessment/regulatory issues.
The deadline for submissions is Sept. 15. E-mail submissions (Word Document format only) are preferred and should be sent to dscelso@scconline.org. After acceptance of abstracts, presenters will be required to submit preprints 12 weeks prior to presentation (minimum of 600 words, maximum of two pages, including figures).
IMWSCC ‘Talks and Tees’ Is Aug. 23-24
The Intermountain West Chapter will hold an opportunity for attendees to network and enhance their
education at Talks and Tees (TNT), which is scheduled for Aug. 23-24.
On Aug. 23, the chapter will meet at the Hotel Park City for its third quarter technical meeting plus vendor/member appreciation dinner. The cost to preregistered SCC members/vendors with hotel reservations though IMWSCC is free, or $35 at the door.
The IMWSCC Annual Golf Outing at Wasatch State Park in Midway, UT, will be held Aug. 24. The cost is $100 per player (preregistration is required). The payment deadline is Aug. 20, according to IMWSCC.
TNT hotels deals at the Hotel Park City and the Park City Marriott have been arranged by IMWSCC.
New England Chapter To Celebrate 50th Anniversary
The New England Chapter will celebrate its 50th anniversary on Sept. 24 aboard the Seaport Elite private yacht for a dinner cruise of Boston Harbor. The cost is $50 per person.
LISCC 13th Annual Golf Outing is Sept. 8
The Long Island Chapter will hold its 13th annual golf outing, Wednesday, Sept. 8 at the Crab Meadow Golf Course. The cost is $170 per person, which includes lunch, open driving range, 18 holes with cart, hors d’oeuvres, cocktails, dinner, free door prize raffles and awards.
Those interested in sponsoring the event should contact Gary Lockwood at (631) 454-7056 or Paul Tchinnis at (631) 531-1587.
The outing is open to the first 140 golfers. You do not have to be an SCC member to play.
Twin Cities’ ‘Cruise Into the Future’ is Sept. 21
The Twin Cities Chapter will hold “Cruise into the Future,” its technical poster board meeting, on Sept. 21. The meeting will be held aboard the Lady of the Lake Paddle Boat on Lake Minnetonka. The cost is $45 for members and $50 for non-members. Boarding begins at 5:30 p.m. and the boat departs at 6 p.m. The cruise ends at 9 p.m.
