In 1927, Herbert F. Johnson, the son of SC Johnson’s founder, said, "The goodwill of people is the only enduring thing in any business.” That’s what Samuel C. Johnson believed 127 years ago when he founded SC Johnson, a privately held family company which is dedicated to the idea that the triple bottom line is not just attainable, but the only way to achieve success as a company and also as a responsible global citizen.
Now, the company released its 2013 annual public sustainability report, which showcases how Samuel C. Johnson’s vision is brought to life. The report details the company’s ongoing work to reach its 2016 environmental goals and illuminates its efforts to improve the lives of people around the globe, said the company.
Highlights include:
Smaller Footprint: SC Johnson increased its use of renewable energy to 30 percent since 2011. With the installation of two new 415-foot-tall wind turbines at its largest global manufacturing facility, the company cuts 6,000 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions annually.
Less Waste: SC Johnson has reduced its global manufacturing waste by 62 percent since 2000, and the company has recycled roughly 8.5 million pounds of waste at its manufacturing facility in Mt. Pleasant, Wis.
