Shiseido Co., Ltd. has named Marc Rey president and CEO of Shiseido Americas, effective Sept. 1, 2015. In addition to this role, Rey will also have global brand responsibility for NARS Cosmetics and Bare Escentuals.
Rey previously served as president of Coty USA and regional senior VP of North America.
Separately, Shiseido also announced that Heidi Manheimer has resigned from her role as CEO of Shiseido Cosmetics America, effective Sept. 30.
As regional head, Rey will develop and execute a strategic vision for Shiseido’s operations in the Americas, focused on growing Shiseido’s prestige franchises, identifying new investment opportunities, and enhancing the organizational structure and operational synergies in the region. He will oversee and manage the Americas organization and Shiseido’s brands and businesses in the U.S., including Shiseido Cosmetics America, Beauté Prestige International USA, NARS Cosmetics and Bare Escentuals (BE), as well as the company’s subsidiaries in Canada and Brazil.
Rey will report to Masahiko Uotani, President and CEO of Shiseido Co., Ltd.
In addition, as global strategic brand holder of NARS Cosmetics and Bare Escentuals, Rey will work closely with the management teams and senior leadership of NARS and BE to develop and support the overall global growth and strategy for both brands across all regions. The Global Brand Holders of Shiseido and Beauté Prestige International reside in Japan and Europe, respectively.
“Marc’s deep and wide beauty knowledge, his experience operating simultaneously in a regional and global brand leadership capacity in a matrix organization, and his motivational, inspiring leadership are a perfect fit for Shiseido,” said Masahiko Uotani, president and CEO of Shiseido Co., Ltd. “With these qualifications, he will help take not only the Americas but also the entire Shiseido Group to the next level of success.”
Uotani called Manheimer “an exceptional, passionate leader at Shiseido for more than 15 years, and her contributions and stewardship have had a transformative impact on SCA’s business and brand name in the United States. She has been a pioneer with our organization, and during her tenure the Shiseido U.S. skincare business grew to the #5 ranking, our suncare business reached the #1 spot, and we launched Shiseido.com and ecommerce for Clé de Peau Beauté, while driving and achieving profitability for Shiseido in the United States. On behalf of the entire organization, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Heidi for her outstanding leadership and wish her all the best as she embarks on the next phase of her career.”
