Thirty-five aspiring perfumers will have the opportunity to showcase their talents at CORPO 35, the annual Fragrance Competition, for the next generation of perfumers. During the opening ceremony at ISIPCA, the renowned perfumery school in France, Firmenich's Perfumer Dora Baghriche, president of this year's jury, unveiled an exclusive collection of more than 20 Firmenich ingredients to inspire the 35 candidates. Spanning naturals, synthetics and bio-based molecules, the up-and-coming perfumery talent will have the unique opportunity to showcase their creativity with these iconic ingredients, from Rose de Mai and Jasmine Sambac to Cardamom and bio-based Clearwood. Firmenich is sponsoring the competition.
"Our leadership in fine fragrance is anchored in the passion, creativity and innovation of our award-winning perfumers," said Armand de Villoutreys, president perfumery & ingredients, Firmenich. "That's why we are proud to sponsor CORPO 35 and look forward to seeing how these aspiring perfumers blend our signature ingredients as they set out to make their mark in the world of perfumery."
"It is an honor for me to be this year's president of the jury," said Dora Baghriche, Perfumer, Firmenich. "Firmenich has a long legacy of mentoring the next generation of up-and-coming perfumers, which is why I am excited to discover their creativity as they push the boundaries of our art."
Baghriche was chosen as this year's president of the jury because of her outstanding creativity and her contemporary approach to fragrance creation, according to Firmenich. The perfumer behind the creation of millennial-loved brand Glossier's Glossier You, she embraces unconventional spirit and drive to innovate new olfactive concepts.
This year CORPO 35 is highlighting Firmenich's naturals including the iconic Rose de Mai, an emblem of the Group's #NATURALSTOGETHER responsible sourcing initiative, which invests in the sustainable livelihoods of 250,000 farming families globally. As part of the experience, candidates will be invited in May, to the company's Naturals Center of Expertise in Grasse to take part in the harvesting of the roses, as well as visit the Firmenich extraction facilities.
Candidates will also have access to some of the company's latest and most innovative molecules, produced using green chemistry, as well as its three bio-based ingredients. Pioneers in white biotechnology, Firmenich shaped the industry's very first bio-based ingredient with the launch of Clearwood, a warm woody note back in 2014. Building on this success, it launched Ambrox Super, an iconic and sustainable amber note. Earlier this year, the Company further anchored its leadership with a bio-based version of the iconic Z11, a powerful, elegant, woody, amber note.
Since 2016, CORPO 35 has offered young fragrance talents the opportunity to design and formulate their own perfumes. After a creative process of six months, five winners will be selected by a jury of professionals to have their perfumes produced and marketed.
