Since beginning to monitor consumer self-care behaviors in 2014, IRI has reported a steady increase in such habits.
Growth in self-care skyrocketed during the 2020 pandemic, even among self-care skeptics.
In a recent consumer survey from IRI and Kline reflecting data from late-2020, six themes were identified. These include basic hygiene and overall body care; clean and healthy homes; getting enough quality sleep; recognizing mental health needs; a growing understanding of the power of prevention; and an ongoing focus on the mainstays of diet and exercise.
IRI and Kline see the use of many tools to support these efforts. These include over-the-counter medications, dietary supplements and devices of all kinds from adhesive bandages to thermometers, heating pads, food/diet and more.
The market research experts say marketers should help consumers simplify and foster daily health regimens aimed at wellness and immunity.
